Well, my intention of entering a blog entry weekly hasn't started off well. My last entry was just before the students arrived to school. Since then, it's been one busy and hectic whirlwind! These past few weeks have been so exciting and exhausting. Students are getting back into the swing of things, teachers are getting to know students and their individual personalities, needs, humor, and learning styles; and students have been getting to know their teachers. The hot weather added even more challenges with the heat and the alternate schedules. I think it was safe to say that the students learned the early dismissal schedule before they were able to learn the regular school day schedule.
With the heat behind us, along with the formalities and uneasiness of getting to know one another and the new schedules, students have been transitioning well into 8th grade. In language arts we have been busy practicing our writing with our daily journals, as well as tackling our first unit, Drama, by covering and connecting with all the elements this genre offers - especially in comparison to the television and films students love to watch.
Starting this week, students will complete their first drama selection, "The Million Pound Bank Note." This radio play by Mark Twain is very enjoyable. Be sure to ask your child how they liked this selection.
